On stranger tides

I read Pirates of the Caribbean; on Stranger Tides by James Ponti and it is a fiction book that teaches readers that the adventure is out there. Jack Sparrow is back and he is facing one of his greatest challenges yet; having to get to the Fountain of Youth. Jack is already faced with people who have actually betrayed him and his pirate crew who are named Hector Barbosa, a former pirate and captain of the Black Pearl before it sank into flames. Jack has known Barbosa longer than he can remember and he couldn’t imagine why hector would betray him. But Jack has no time to think about that as he has to go through evil mermaids and fierce ships just to get to the Foutain of Youth. With the help of Angelica, nothing can stop them until Jack comes face to face with the captain of the ship the feared Blackbeard. This story is a great and thrilling adventure to get to the Foutain of Youth and it teaches readers that the adventure is out there.

I think that the author sort of achieved his purpose because this book was meant to entertain and I did think that the book was pretty entertaining but not completely. There were some parts where I got kind of bored and I thought the author could have made it better. The strengths of this book is that the book had lots of action-packed scenes in it and I loved these parts of the book but the weaknesses of this book were that there weren’t action-packed scenes in the whole book just in some short parts of it.

I would recommend this book to readers because it gives you a really good idea of what the movie is going to be like. I would also recommend this book to readers because it has a lot of action-packed scenes that I thought made me want to read more and more. The last reason I would recommend this book to readers is because it really brought out the feeling of being a pirate and it really went along with the title.

Cages gives me 1,040

CagesI read Cages by Peg Kehret which is a fiction book that tells readers that animals don’t deserve to be locked away in cages. Kit is a fourteen year old who has some serious problems at home when her dad is drunk and her mom is not standing up to him. That is when Kit decides to do something she will regret for the rest of her life and that is shoplift from a store called Pierre’s because of a girl named Marcia who gets just about anything she wants. Although Kit thinks she is going to get away, she gets caught be someone and is sentenced to court for her shoplifting. Her punishment is doing community service at the Humane Society and helping out with the dogs. Kit thinks it is fun, but can she get through it without seeing her favorite dog named Lady die? And how will she keep her secret of shoplifting from her friend, Tracy, when she had broken a promise that she wouldn’t do anything bad? This story is very touching and shows that animals do not deserve to be locked away in cages.

I like how the author tried to change readers emotions about this book because it really gave me the goosebumps thinking how many of those dogs die each day because no one wants to adopt them. If you read this book, you can really see how much time and effort it took for this book to be as emotional as it was. I think this is just merely another nice book that I read because I loved how they played with my emotions in the book, but I don’t really like emotional books as well as I do action-packed books. However, I would suggest this to other readers and it might make the readers cry.

I would recommend this book to other readers because it makes the readers very emotional when the main character finds out about how many dogs die each day. I would also recommend this book because it gives readers good information on how animals are treated today and how we can stop this from happening. The last reason I would recommend this book is because it taught we a great lesson about respect and it will teach other readers an important lesson not just about respect, but maybe standing up for yourself at times.

Finishing the book Hero

Hero

Zach is a fourteen year old boy going through some tough times because his dad (who was sort of like a spy for the government) had been killed because of a plane crash. Zach was eager to find out any clues as to how his dad had died during that crash. So Zach goes up to the area his dads plane had crashed and finds his dads good luck charm hiding in the dirt for him to find. It wasn’t long before Zach runs into an old man who tells Zach that he will have the same powers as his father did. Zach thought that it was just a joke until he defended himself against some real tough guys by making moves he had never done before. Only these people didn’t seem real to Zach because they just kept vanishing out of sight right when Zach was about to catch them. Does Zach really have real powers? And if so how will he use them? This book is a great read for people who enjoy action-packed books and it shows readers to not trust anyone but a friend.

I think that this review is great for readers who are looking for a good read and who enjoy books that are action-packed with adventure all around this boys life. I think that if readers ever get the chance to read Hero, they might actually say it is one of the best books they have ever read and I would actually agree with them. I really did enjoy every minute of this book and I can’t wait to see what other books are out there. I think that this writing will be very effective to readers in the future because it will give them some courage in themselves that they can keep pushing forward with their lives and try to do what is right. I think that is what the book was trying to teach me when I had read it.

I would recommend this book to other readers because I really enjoyed the theme to the story about how Zach actually had his own powers. I also thought Zach’s powers were creative and interesting and how he could do these awesome airborne moves. The last reason I would recommend this book is because I thought it was almost as exciting as Firestorm and Firestorm was probably the best book that I have ever read.

Underground

Charlotte is just 16 years old and she is getting sold a lot by other owners who either died or just went somewhere else. Charlotte is solded in this novel to Kentucky and she is to work at a place called the Mammoth Cave Hotel. It isn’t long before she meets her owner and other slaves that were working at the hotel named Mittie, Mat, Stephen, and Nick. Charlotte is also told about the Mammoth Cave that is just outside of the hotel that Stephen loves to do some exploring inside. Stephen makes numerous discoveries such as a river, blind fish, and many different interesting rooms that no one has ever seen before. What Charlotte doesn’t know though is that there are slaves that pass by the hotel and Charlotte s determined to use the cave to help them with their running. But is there any chance that all these slaves will stay hidden long enough? This book is a great read and teaches others that everyone deserves freedom no matter what race.

I think that the author achieved her purpose of the book because the purpose of the book was to inform readers about the lives of different slaves and the book gives some good info about the lives of not only Charlotte and Stephen, but every other character the author mentioned in the book. I think the book was interesting and very informative because they talk about the history of what the slaves had to go through and how far of a journey they had just to get to the only area near them which was Canada.

I would recommend this book to readers because it gives good information for a research project on slavery if you had to do one. I also think readers would like this book because some parts in the book make you emotional and you just don’t want it to happen. The last reason that I would suggest this book to other readers is because it teaches a great lesson about how slavery should have never happened and that all blacks and whites are superior to each other.

Digging Holes (232 pages)

Holes

I read Holes by Louis Sachar which is a realistic fiction book that teaches people to help others that are less fortunate than others. Holes is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats the fourth who goes to a camp for stealing Clyde Livingston’s, a famous baseball player, shoes. Stanley didn’t actually steal the shoes, but the shoes hit him on the head because Stanley was in the wrong place at the wrong time. When Stanley gets to camp Green Lake, he realizes it isn’t a girl scout camp based on what his counselor, Mr. Sir, had said. Stanley does make new friends at the camp which include Zigzag, X-ray, Armpit, and many other friends who use their nicknames instead of the ones their parents gave them. Stanley doesn’t know what to expect of this camp until he starts digging his first hole, than his second, and so on for the next eighteen months when he gets released. In this very interesting book, Stanley learns about making new friends and working in the hot sun all day long isn’t just his regular walk in the park. He also learns to help others that are even less fortunate than him such as his friend Zero who lives no where at all.

I think this was a good book, but I don’t really think that it was the best book I have ever read. I loved reading this book and I just couldn’t stop reading it before I went to bed, but it wasn’t full of action like one book that I have read before that is called Firestorm. The strengths in this book were that it was very interesting where in the book, there were flashbacks of Sam the onion man and Kate Barlow because of the lipstick tube Stanley found in his hole. Stanley also had a flashback of when his great great grandfather Elya Yelnats was sentenced with a curse because he didn’t carry Madam Zeroni, a gypsy, up the mountain. The weaknesses of this book were that this book didn’t have very much action in it and I crave books with a bunch of action and excitement.

I would recommend this book to other readers because because the book tells interesting facts about the history of Camp Green Lake such as the time Elya Yelnats gave a curse to Stanley’s family because he didn’t carry a gypsy up the mountian. I also think that this book teaches a great lesson about people in this world who are poor and less fortunate than we are today and that we should help them so they don’t continue to go through poverty. The last reason I recommend this book is because the book is funny because of the nicknames that were not only given to some of Stanley’s friends, but to Stanley as well.

Fun in the river

River Thunder

I am in the process of reading a book called River Thunder by Will Hobbs. I haven’t really read to much of this book yet but so far it’s about two girls named Jessie and Star who come to the Grant Canyon because they have a friend named Al who sends them a letter saying they need help with a camp called Discovery Unlimited. Jessie and Star also see their friends there named Rita and Pug who also got the same letter from Al and that they would all go down to lunch when it was time. It didn’t take long for the group to spot the person that got them in trouble with Al last time because they all ditched him. His name was Troy and no one at all was very happy to see that he had probably gotten the same letter too. It wasn’t until after the group sat down for lunch and waited for Al to show up that Troy announced that he was Al and that he had wrote the letters to everyone telling them they get to come back to the Grand Canyon. Everyone was furious with this and they are still trying to figure out what they are going to do next since they got dragged all the way out to the Grand Canyon for nothing.

The start of Underground

underground_railroad3The book that I’m reading right now is called Underground by Jean Ferris and so far, the book is about a sixteen year old girl named Charlotte who is a slave and gets traded from Tennessee to Kentucky because her owner had died. She ends up working at a place Mammoth Cave Hotel where she meets a women named Mittie and three boys all named Mat, Stephen, and Nick. Stephen is a marvelous explorer and he spends most of his time down in Mammoth Cave where he actually finds a way to get across a Bottomless Pit and discover a river inside of the cave. Charlotte also loves it at the Mammoth Cave Hotel because the work is very easy and their master treats all of them very nicely. Charlotte also finds out that Stephen is able to read and write so Stephen ends up teaching Charlotte how to pronounce a word. Everything is going great for Charlotte and her new friends until their owner, Mr. gorin, sells his property to a man named Dr. Croghan who takes slavery more seriously than Mr. Borin does and Charlotte starts to think that work will continue to get harder becuase of her brand new owner.

Aiming for a Million Dollars

Million Dollar strike

The Million Dollar Strike written by Dan Gutman is a mystery fiction book that tells readers who enjoy books that mysteries can always be solved. Ryan, otherwise known as Ouchie, loves to bowl with his best friend Stephen who is also known as Squishy. They would both ride their bikes to a place called Bowl-O-Rama every day after school because it is their favorite bowling area even if it isn’t the best bowling alley in town. But when their town announces that they are going to tear down Bowl-O-Rama, the two friends try to take action and they manage to keep it open by restoring the whole bowling alley through the help of the nutty Mr. Zamboni, the bowling alley owner, and his huge piles of cash in a safe. Things start to turn out all right until someone or something tries to mess with the bowling alley in an attempt to close the bowling alleys doors forever. This is a strange and a little bit of a weird book to read that teaches people that mysteries can always be solved.

I don’t think the author achieved his purpose because he barely talked about the million dollar strike very much and what events led up to this nail biting opportunity for people around town. However, it did talk about the money and how Ouchie and Squishy had a passion for bowling so at least these two things relate to the title of the book. I think that the strengths in this book are how exciting it was when the person messing with the bowling alley tried to destroy Bowl-O-Rama (later known as extreme bowling) because it really made the turning point of the story exciting and I couldn’t put the book down. The only problem with the book was they didn’t talk about the million dollar strike very much and if they don’t do that, this book should have a different title.

I wouldn’t recommend this book to readers unless you have a sincere passion for bowling. The first reason I don’t like this book is because the book barely relates to the title at all, and I only counted one time in the book where the main characters talked about the Million Dollar Strike. The second reason I don’t think you should read this book is because the characters are very random and have no relation to the book at all. There is a clown in this book and a crazy man who claims to see ghost during the nighttime. The third reason I wouldn’t read this book is because it did not have a strong ending at all and I thought the author could have put more thought into it.

Protect the Quarterback’s blind side!

The Blind Side

Michael Oher started out as a child of thirteen different children by a mother that can’t take care of them properly. He doesn’t know his father’s name and he lives in an unsafe environment. But, after he gets taken away from his real mother, he gets sent to a foster parent who sends him to a white school which changes his life. He then meets a family who takes care of him and helps him learn the game of football. They provide him with the right food, clothing, and shelter for him to have until he goes off to college. But Michael Oher will never change his ways when he used to live in that unsafe environment called Hurt Village and it will take a miracle to make him change his ways. This book is a fantastic read about the game of football and teaches readers that kindness can change a life.

I like how this writing style talked about the history of Michael Oher and how he wasn’t even meant to be on a college football team if it weren’t for the Tuohy family and their act of random kindness. I don’t like how the author talked about the NFL football history of other players besides Michael Oher because this book should be about his experiences and not other football players. I would say that this is just another good read for me and I didn’t really find it very exciting because I enjoy books that have a lot of action that takes place in the book. I did like how the author talked about how tough a life Michael Oher had to go through and how a family helped him get to become an NFL football player.

I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy sports and readers who want an interesting and mind blowing book. The first reason I would recommend this book is because it has an interesting history on the NFL football player Michael Oher and how he had a tough life to live before he started living with the Tuohy’s. The second reason I think you should read this book is because it teaches a great lesson about the segregation of blacks and whites even after the laws were ended in the 90′s. I can tell this talks about segregation because Michael Oher gets bad comments taken about him being a different race than whites. The third reason I would recommend this book to readers is because it teaches a fantastic lesson about kindness and love when Leigh Anne Tuohy adopted Michael and made him a great football player.
